took my "new to me" universal generation III- m-1 apart.
and discovered a part that is damaged.
it measures 1/4" x 5/8" x 3-9/16" and is made of plastic.
also it has 4 pins molded onto the back side of this plastic piece and those 4 pins fit into 4 holes on the receiver.
2 of the 4 pins are sheared off smooth.
what does it do?
can this whole piece be replaced with a steel one machined to its exact same size and instead of pins
thread the holes and use red locktite on small screws? (being careful of course not to allow the screws to interfere with the action of the bolt.)
or should i drill out the plastic piece and make new pins out of plastic rod ?
after a total take down ...i now see that the holes are threaded and the plastic is cosmetic to fill in the missing wood material.
any help appreciated...mike
done some looking...the plastic block is called a "proprietary scope mount"
and it came with the gun new ....since i'm not going to scope it ...does the plastic block need to be in there at all?
