Anyone on here use PLEX? I'm looking to exchange server access permissions.

sorry, i tried a few server backends but finally went with simply storing everything in the win 2k3 server box and using different incarnations of kodi to playback the media.
openelec
kodi on windows
kodi on linux
xbmc on minix boxes
etc etc.

no transcoding needed but obviously only works with boxes that can access network drives.

:)

I have KODI running on a raspberry Pi, but I kinda like Plex for its stupid simple approach. I use Sonarr and Radarr to find what I want and it auto adds them to my plex server. If you get them in the right format there's no transcoding needed.

The part I like most is I can access and play media from my server at home from anywhere in the world as long as theres internet access. And it plays on any computer cellphone tablet or Roku / firestick device.

It did cost me $100 for a lifetime Plex Pass account. But for an account with no remote access its free.

The other nice part is being able to add friends and sharing server access. It opens up an epic ammount of video selection that way.

I tried PLEX, but i prefer KODI. KODI is pretty easy to set up if all you media is organized good. I use MediaELq as a scraper for meta data. Then make KODI use local data only and it looks beautiful. The i thing i cant do is host my ebook library. Calibre fills that void. I use Linux mint with future flan of converting it to a headless media server.

You can get a slot on a whatbox server in the Netherlands for 15-20 bucks/month and make it do pretty much whatever you want...
