10 mm vs. 40 S&W

I don't want to start a firestorm over the G word but a 40 S&W will cause a smiley face due to an unsupported chamber. My question does the same thing happen with the 10mm? I have not loaded 10 mm before. Does the 10mm have a thicker case? Which cartridge has the higher operating pressure?

My 10mm has bulges. And yes, 10mm has higher pressures.

Recoil is stout vs the .40 btw.

IME, no you do not get smiley with any caliber in a Glock as long as the pressures are kept within spec. I can load 200gr @ 1200fps in my stock G20sf with no case deformation. Pressures in the 10 & 40, pretty much identical. 2500cup diff is NOT causing smiley faces. The 357sig runs higher pressures still, no issues.

If you shoot your 10mm in a revolver you won't get Smiley Faces 8-)

Ive loaded 40 SW for at least 3 different guns and smileys have not been an issue. One such gun is a Glock 23 with 180 grains moving over 1100 fps with Long Shot and Gold Dots (book data). 40 caliber Glocks are held out to be scary to reload for. Not my experience. Keep things sensible and there is nothing special about loading for the 40.

Ditto the 10mm auto. No issues running hard in my Glock 20

Nothing magical about either. Use good book data and do the normal load development.

back off one grain from max loads in the book and you usually wont get bulges. Load either up to max or more and your going to probably see bulges in any gun with an unsupported chamber. I look at the 10 as a gun that I can load up to max 40 ballistics and even a bit more with much less pressure.
