Didn't see a better place to ask but I had/ still have and can't find a old little mirror device that was set in a metal tube at an angle that you could set in the open action of a lever action or semi auto for that matter , point the muzzle at a light and let you get a good look at the inside of the barrel . I have no idea how old the one I had was it came with my paps 1920's era Winchester when it was passed down to me . It was a handy little gadget and would like to replace it . I don't even know what they were called to google it . Anyone know what I'm referring to ?

I remember seeing them in magazine ads in the 60's. Might have been some of the surplus/parts dealers that had ads in nearly every gun magazine. Most of them have gone out of business, but Numrich and Dixie are still around, I'd try them. CastingFool is probably right, I can't recall them being called anything other than bore scope.

Years ago I made one using an old dental mirror. I just ground off the sides so it would fit into the action below the bore. Worked OK for a quick look at the condition of the bore etc.

Sometimes see them on evilbay.
They do make newer versions.
I've always wanted one.

if you have a smart cell phone .. one of these makes a fairly good borescope for cheap .. note its 5.5 MM so will not fit a 223 but will for 6MM and above

The Army had a plastic version post-WWII, but they have long since been discontinued. I wish I had one/some, because they sure are handy.

I have a bore light that was commercially produced and made very creatively. It's a small flashlight with a distributor cap boot and a piece of acrylic rod bent 90° over the light. This one is LED; mine is very old and has an incandescent lamp but it works.

 Yep.I remember those well.Back in about 1960 I was in a real GI surplus store in Orlando Fl and they had a huge box of them on the counter marked $.25.Bought $2.00 worth.
Gave two to the local American Legion post commander, and he just about popped his eyes out as he had been looking for some for a while for rifle inspection of the posts Springfields.Gave all but one to other vets to inspect their rifles and kept one for myself.Don`t know what ever happened to it.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

I've been searching the web for them.
Seems no one makes the anymore.
I remember seeing them for sale a while ago.
I always wanted one to bore sight rifles.
I was thinking of getting a small prism and trying to make one.

That's the one I've seen before.
CMP used to sell something like it.
Checked the web site.
They don't carry it anymore.
If I can find a prism small enough, I think I can make one.

Anyone find any for sale????
I've been watching evilbay but nothing.
Still trying to figure out how i might be able to make one.
I want to make it with a double prisum.
This way i can bore sight without having to move to the side to look through it.
It has to be small enough to fit into a .22 cal rifle port.
Might be asking to much. But it's worth trying.

unless you have a borescope; there is nothing even close to a bore mirror. if you own one , and own a magnifying visor; use the visor along with the mirror. its a little tricky to get the two lined up, but, its amazing what the throat and a couple inches of bore show you. 3x magnifying visor seems to work best. if you run across a bore mirror, buy it.
