I have a Rossi youth combo for my son. Tried to shoot the 22 barrel and hammer falls but no marks on shell from firing pin. Why and how can this be fixed. Called Rossi and wasnt happy, this gun hasnt had 500 rounds through it. Gun is around ten years old, it lives in my safe most of the time. Has anybody seen this before?

I would look at the mechanism that changes the hammer from a centerfire strike to a rim fire strike as the first source of possible malfunction.

Off the top of my head; I also had a Rossi youth combo in 22 mag and 12 gauge barrels, same thing happened years ago I remember it being that a small hard piece of crud was wedged in tight and wouldn’t lay the firing pin go forward, it was an easy fix but then it happened again so it got traded off

Hello Birddog896,
WELCOME on your first posting :)

See manual
http://www.rossiusa.com/pdf/rossi_manual_single_shotgun.pdf

Is the safety on??
I am used to single shots with NO SAFETY and sometimes forget
to unsafe the Rossi :)

Break the barrel, turn safety off, cock hammer, holding the trigger back ease the hammer down while looking at the hole the firing pin should come through.

Did it?

Many of these rifles have transfer bars, where if you release trigger too soon the firing pin does not get hit.
Second possibility is safety.
Third is a broken fireing pin.

Sit down and eyeball that action, figure it out. Where is the problem?
You can DO this!

The Rossi uses one firing pin for rim and center fire cartridges. The rimfire barrel is bored eccentric to allow this.
Examine it as Ghosthawk describes- My Matched Pair .22&.410 has been flawless with lots of use. It's an early issue non safety model.

Broken firing pin!!
It happened to my sons gun, 22/410 combo. I had a friend make me new firing pin, out of a piece of stainless steel.
My son would go through a brick of 22's in a weekend! Been a few years. He is twenty now and STILL likes single shot rifles.

The Rossi and H&R break-open rifles should not be dry fired. A broken firing pin will result. Not necessarily the first time, but sooner rather than later. Having a spare firing pin or two is a good idea.
