I traded into a Virgin Valley 45-70 barrel from a buddy of mine. He just never shot it. I am seriously thinking about taking it on my upcoming cow elk hunt.
I decided to have a little quick fun this afternoon and try something. I loaded three rounds with 70 grains of FF Pyrodex (I know, it’s all I have) a felt war and my as cast Lee 405 gr boolits. I had to turn the scope in the mounts because it was crooked. I shot three quick shots. Even though we are in the country it is a congested area. For three fast shots at 25 yards it’s not bad.
The flyer was my fault. I shot too quick. I need to make some real BP lube and try this at 100 yards.
I really wish I could get real black here in Reno without ordering it. May try 777.
I may like this BP cartridge stuff! 223612

That load will certainly do the job. Sounds like you will have fun with it.
