Twist Rate?

I have wanted a 6x47 for a very long time and think I'm ready to make it happen. I've collected 222mag brass and got 1100 never loaded blanks so brass is covered pretty well. I also bought a savage axes for a donner rifle, but when I went to Shaw to order a barrel I see they have 8,10. and 12 twist rates. I think I would like from about 75 to 100gr bullets and boolits from this. Any thoughts on the best twist rate? The rifle will be used to help start the grandsons out on moving up from .22's and just a fun plinker.

Several of the barrel sites have twist claculators on them most have a chart showing bullet weight / length and twist needed. for the 6 X47 and its velocities with Jacketed bullets I would probably go with the 8 twist as 10s work okay for the bigger 6s but they have more velocity also. Look at Pac nor lilja douglas and hart for the calculator or charts

If all you are going to do is punch paper and shoot groundhogs, all the benchrest rifles for 6x47 back in the day were 1:14" twist for use with 70-75-grain bullets.

And if you plan on shooting the RCBS boolit you'll want a 10. A 14 works beautifully with the NOE 75gr. but keyholes with the RCBS 90 gr. (or is it 95?)

A wonderful cartridge. I had a Rem 600 rebarreled to it with a flyweight barrel. It would shoot 1" 5 shot groups at 200 yds.
With an 80gr sp, it worked on deer as well. Mine was a 10" twist.

As Outpost mentioned the 14" twist is standard for the 6x47. The Sierra 75 gr HP is a popular bullet for general use. That twist will be best for cast also as long as the cast bullet isn't any longer than the 75 Sierra.

AND a 14" twist will let you shoot higher velocity with cast than an 8" or 10"
