After reading and looking, I decided to put in the screw to keep the the sprue plate screw from backing out. I did this once before on another mold (not a 6 cav) and was not satisfied because if you occasionally rap the handle to dislodge the bullets, the set screw loosens. I think part of the problem is that if you drill and tap the hole where most people do, there are not that many threads holding in the mold because the mold block is thin at that point because it is the outermost point of the sprue screw diameter. Did I lose you???

So, I drilled and tapped off center to gain a thicker piece of aluminum. I might have gained 2 threads. I hope this works.

Plan B is to drill and tap through the sprue plate screw so even if the set screw loosens, it is still into the the mold block and screw, thus pinning them together.

The sprue plate screw is 1/4" diameter (1/4X28). Since this is not a screw needed for strength, just a hinge pin effect, I have no worries about it breaking.

I used a 6 mm screw on mine. I haven't had any problems with mine. It is drilled " dead on " as you can see.

The cap screw shown in your picture gave me an idea. Drill the cap screw and go to your local, small airport and talk the mechanic out of some .020" safety wire. Drill a hole in the lower block to attach the safety wire to.

Here's an example: http://www.ultralightnews.com/pilotslounge/safetywire.htm

Search for additional info.

Being a former aircraft owner/builder, I did a lot of safety wiring:)
