looked at a 95 mauser, It was a very basic, restock and drill for scope mount sporterized model in good condition. What is it worth. I have some sentimental reasons for wanting one, but at $300 I had to walk away. Did have a good looking barrel, inside and out. Had factory safety.

Sounds about triple the normal price for low budget sporterized Mausers. If it had a
nice walnut aftermarket stock, *maybe* $175-200 but this is getting perilously close to
a new Stevens Model 200 which is basically a low priced Savage. It gets hard
to figure how you are going to get ahead nowdays with restocking a milsurp
rifle, given the high price of walnut these days and the low price of good quality
hunting rifles. Maybe a really inexpensive synthetic stock would make economic
sense, but usually not.

Expecting gun show prices to always (or even usually!) be sensible is looking for
something you are not going to find. Hard to see who would pay $300 for a
low bucks M95 sporter.

I've seen several M95s in mostly original condition recently for $350 to $550, so the
"donor" rifles for milsurp sporterization are going for more than a new rifle, so it seems
like this has pretty much gone the way of the dodo bird for Mausers. Now a $69 Mosin --
may be some room there.

Ditto what Bill says. $75-175.00. Now a really pristine example in fillmilitary dress or a nice sporterized or commercial sporter is another story. But a bubba'd 95 is nothing worth $300.

I agree with these guys, M95 "sporters" aren't worth but about a C note at best.

Ditto! You were wise to walk away!

................Yup, these days a really nice 1895 Chilean in 'as issued' condition in 90% or better condition will be from $450 to $600 depending upon who has it and what the - 10% is.

A 1895 Chilean as a garage sporter, if safe to shoot and mechanicly sound will start at $100 and go up from there, depending upon how it was done, and how well it was done.

looked at a number of mauser 98's, some just straight military, others mildly sportorized to 8mm with stepped barrels and some stock checkering. Prices ranged from low $300-875. None of them looked like much. Although Marlin XLR new in box were $595 but most thing were marked above suggested retail price. Kinda a wasted trip to the gun show. The only good deal was a new in box winchester claw extractor wood and blue in 300 win mag for $485.
