I went to the scrap yard this morning and acquired 180 lbs. I found a couple of rolls of solder, some soft lead, around 2-3k cast boolits ranging from .22 cal to .45 cal some still in baggie. There is a piece of ingot? with the letters I t m on it. It's been cut with a saw. I cannot scratch it with my hardest Staedler pencil. Has anyone seen anything similar? I only have that small chunk, just curious. Thanks for any info.

Save the solder, melt down the cast boolits, pour a couple of ingots, let them cool, check hardness. If needed put maybe half of that chunk of hard in with it.

See what you get.

Should get something shootable out of it.

I have some rolls of old 50/50 plumbing solder. I used it as needed when I needed tin until I made a pewter score. Keep looking, lead is where you find it.

Maybe test the hard stuff for Zn first?

I was just thinking maybe someone knew exactly what that chunk was.
I'm always picking up pewter at thrift stores and flea markets plus I bought some super hard from Roto metals a few months ago. I have a halfway decent supply of soft lead and wheel weight lead.
I just bought some muriatic acid so I can test for zinc contamination so I will check out that chunk.
