Today we're smelting an old bucket of wheel weights. I'm measuring the hardness of our ingots and am getting a fairly consistent 9bhn. I'm not complaining but I have always thought wheel weights were like 13bhn. What do you guys say?

It depends on the mix .It can be low.i think 13 is high for that.Someone else might have some thing else about it.if it is clip on then it will be a little high but if it is stick on it will be low.

Measure again in about 2 weeks. It has to stabalize and harden through precipitation process. Unless you melted the clipons with the stickons. Then they will ne softer. For clip ons i get about 12bhn. I wait a week or two before measuring.

Give them time! COWW’s have been historically ~12.......after curing. Right out of the ingot mold you reading will be low.....and wrong. YES.....try them in 2 weeks!

Thanks guys. There were only a couple stick on ones in the entire bucket so it must be the aging thing.
You guys are awesome as usual.
