Has anyone bought/tried out these "target cameras"?

Either the "Sight in" model ( up to 300yds)
or Quality? Performance?
etc

I don't know about the Bullseye camera system, but I just put one together using drone camera parts. I have not got to try it for distance yet, (still waiting on the batteries) but it works great in my basement running off a 12 volt source. I will let you know when I get a chance to try it out. It is suppose to have a range of 2000 meters. I have about $100 in it.

A friend has one and it does good . Our club range is south facing so seeing holes in paper can be hard. With this you not only see them it marks the last shot and shows the group both. There is a creek that runs in front of the targets that limits distance w e can set it from the targets so He built a small stand to allow for this and angle the camera more. It works very good and he uses it a lot.

Like most chronographs its in front of the rifle so chances of it getting shot or damaged is high. His has a hole thru the case but it didn't hit anything inside. We wont use it on the gongs either for fear of bullet splatter damaging it.

He uses it on his phone or a tablet but at times a bigger screen would be handy at the firing line. One thing we have done is to place a target on a bench and use some plastic Bingo chips to transfer to actual target size. Better would be some colored disks punched out at bullet dia. A heavy plexiglass ( Lexan) guard would be a benefit. made into a vertical vee and 4-5" taller to set behind it as a protector might be a good idea. With it in front of the targets on a public range it might become a target of opportunity to some.

I would be building me a nice thick Steel V To set behind the camera to act as a bullet shield/deflector

I use the 300 yard one. So far I am impressed with clarity and features. I use an HP laptop I take to range to make notes on. I have the replacement if shot warranty with mine. I still use 1/4" v shield to protect it

That was my first thought when I saw this system and still is. IMO it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.

I have the long range model, without the antenna. Not sure exactly what it is called. I really like the fact that the software allows it to blink and show the last shot and allows you to mark and number shots and show separate groups when shooting at the same target. You could shoot ten, ten shot groups, at the same target and have each group marked and eat shot numbered.

My only complaint is that it is quite direction sensitive, at least at longer ranges. I need to have the back of the box pointed pretty much straight back towards the shooting bench, or it loses signal. You cannot have it down to low, or the back is pointed into the ground, or to far off to the side, or it is pointed left of right. Placing a steel plate on top or behind it, reduces the signal back to the receiving unit. The best protection is to buy their $30 for two year protection package, and be careful.

I have not had the opportunity to use it beyond 500 meters, but once I figured out the "pointing" back to the bench required, I have had no problems.

I was going to build one but went a different route. My Leopold spotting scope with a good phone lens adapter, my cell phone running as a hotspot and broadcasting via IP webcam, and my iPad on the bench with me. I have a rock solid small tripod that I put the scope/phone on under or just in front of the bench, focused on my target. It's not getting bumped, handled, hit, or anything and i have a nice big view in front of me.

I really liked their shot marking software but wasn't going to pay for just that over a drone camera build. I like that this is in one safe place and the view is outstanding.

I don't have the Bullseye but bought the Targetvision system. For my needs it suited me better, and wouldn't trade it for all the tea in China

I am interested.
300 yards would do me.
But staking out watching a spot off away’s could be quite beneficial too.

How about some pictures and design doc's. I've been toying with building a Target Camera with WiFi/or... RF link to Notebook Computer. Rather build a setup based on actual shooters experience rather than trying to do a one off design myself. Let us see what you've got.

Just tried out the system two days ago at 500 meters and it works fine, nice and clear. I bought all of the parts from amazon. I am putting a parts list together.

Upgraded the batteries for more power. I had a mini tripod to hold camera and transmitter. Used a lapua brass box to house the camera and transmitter. Bought a case from HF to carry to transport it, 24.99.

You will also need several rca connectors to hook everything up. Don't know how to do pictures. Wiring is pretty easy, red positive, black negative, and yellow is video. My son is out of town right now or I would have him post pictures.

Thanks for the parts list. Have saved the list in my Amazon "List" account. Pictures would be a help if you could post pics when your Son returns. Thanks.

Looked at this - Makes sense, did you mean to list the battery pack twice, though? Or am I missing something?

You need one battery for the transmitter and camera and one battery for the receiver and monitor.

Aah, OK, makes sense then. I have so much 12V power source stuff that it's not an issue :P Thank you!

I have had one for a couple of years and it has been great. It is much better than a spotting scope. I added a better directional antenna to the 300 yd model and have not been able to get far enough away from it to make it not work.

Steelshooter, what sort of run time do you get with those batteries?
My fish camera uses a 4 a/h battery and I have a 7 a/h battery and a 12 a/h battery. I was using the 7 a/h battery running just one sonar unit but when I added the second unit I added the 12 a/h battery. Did want to go dead out on the water.
Don't want to run out of battery at the range either.

On posting pics, upload the pics into your computer. When you want to post them just click the Go Advanced button in the lower right corner of this place where you are typing.
This takes to a plce where you can post pics.
Scroll down to Manage attachments. A window opens that lets you browse through the pics on your computer.
You do this by clicking Add Files, browse, upload. Then hit done, My Remington 725 in 280 Remington.
After a time or two it gets easier.

I got the parts to assemble a shooting camera like Steelshooter built.
I didn't get the exact same items as Steelshooter listed. Couldn't find most of them on Amazon.
I got most of the stuff on Ebay. I just searched using the specs of the parts, left off the brand names. Got everything for about the same prices as Steelshooter. I had a bit if trouble with the transmitter and receiver. The first one I bought the seller contacted me and said it was damaged and returned my money. #2 was out of stock. I got that from Amazon.
The camera #1 didn't work. #2 worked but was not the 2.8 to 12 zoom. These both got sent back. The third order I ordered from China, I bought two just to up the odds of getting a good one. They both work.
The only cable adapter you need is a RCA male to a BNC male. The cable from the camera is a BNC female. The input to the monitor is an RCA female.
I got them off Ebay.
On to how it works, great. The weather here has not been good till today. So I got it out side and played with it I sat the camera/ transmitter in my yard. Took the monitor and receiver in the van and drove up the road about a mile and it still received a good picture.
It took me longer than I liked but it was worth it.
East to hook up. everything from the camera to transmitter just plug together with the adapter.
From the receiver to the monitor was plug and play. The trickiest part was getting the power cables all hooked up right. Had to do some splicing, adding connectors to hook to the batteries.
Once I got all the parts and figured out the current draw I could figure out run times. The camera and transmitter draws about .36 amps. Using a 2800 mAh battery it should run about 7.7 hours. The monitor/receiver draw about .62 amps. to get the same run time a 4800 mAh battery will give you the same 7.7 hours of run time.
Plenty for a day of shooting.
I found Li-ion batteries on Ebay, from China. Most don't list a 2800 mAh battery, so a 3000 mAh at $14.39 with free shipping, A 4800 mAh at $16.49 with free shipping.
I'll try to get some pics up soon. Got to get batteries for the camera to take pics with.
Thanks a lot for the idea and parts list Steelshooter.

Your welcome 44mag, it has been awhile since I checked this thread. Your estimates on the batteries run time are close to what I have seen. I am now working on getting just the transmitter, camera and battery set up to use at different ranges using the original receiver and monitor just by switching channels on the receiver. My plan is to set up four cameras, one at 200,300,400,and 500 meters on different channels on the transmitters and change channels on the receiver to the distance I am shooting at. Should save alot of range time moving the one camera to each distance I will be shooting at.

I've been thinking on doing this once I move, and debating whether to run a power cable out to the cameras to power them, or put solar panels by each station to keep them charged, or whatever. Gives me something to think about, it'll depend on whether I will own the land they're on or just be borrowing the land etc.; If someone was building this at a group or public range, they could add a traverse mechanism to the far end, to aim the camera at various targets, another handy thing. (There are cameras used for home security that have X and Y motor drives built in, I have a Panasonic WV-SF332 sitting here, it's low-end compared to most - 1x, 2x, 4x zoom; going to use it for a project soon.)

Also do be aware that it's "not infrequent" for various sellers to "be somewhat optimistic" about the capacity of batteries they sell; A "3500 mAh" battery pack may actually give you 2500 mAh of power or the like. Sad but true, some people lie.

And as a character asked elsewhere, "What in the world is with Chinese companies naming their lines of Lithium-Ion Batteries with 'Fire' in the names? Fire REALLY isn't a good thing, when you're playing with Lithium-Ion batteries!" (If you overcharge them, they tend to object by - you guessed it - Catching fire. In this context, fire is a BAD thing!)

Yep same here!! I would think a 105amp/hr. Boat battery could take care of the power issues.
