Just my opinion, but I've always liked cut rifling for cast boolit shooting. I think there might be a key there somewhere. I have cut and button rifled barrels that shoot well with cast, but when I really think about it, and shoot my old Springfields with cut barrels, (even the ones that look too worn) they still shoot pretty good. The button rifled barrels though on some of my modern sporters just shoot lousy with cast, even though they have been cleaned of copper fouling, (I have a Shilen barreled mauser in .30/06 that will shoot very well indeed with cast, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule).

That's an interesting thought. I could think of several arguements in its favor, but then the fact that button rifled barrels will also do well argues more that there's something besides the mode of rifling involved.
