I have a ruger security six and a marlin lever action both in 357 cal. I have been pushing a pced Lyman 358 165 with gas check using 2400 powder and getting 1260 fps from a 2 in barrel. Will this be too much for the marlin or can the marlin withstand a higher load than the ruger. I am hoping to find a near max load for multiple use in both guns.;-)

Both guns will take full power loads

When I had a marlin 1894c, I ran 15 grains of 2400 with a 358156, and neither myself nor the rifle had any complaints.

The old data lists 16 grains of 2400 with a 158 grain bullet as duplicating the old factory loads. I never tried that combo.

You just have to remember that the rifle doesn't vent the pressure like a revolver does. I've run some pretty stiff loads through my Marlins, but I don't make a habit of it.

Hope this helps.
