.458" Bore Diameter

Just curious, any yall shooting rifle molds in .458" bores?
Maybe .457" bores?

When I had my Sharps and a Rolling Block I used Buffalo Arms .458 Creedmoor grease groove bullet molds, 540 grains in pure lead. In my Pedersoli Gibbs I use their mold and they are like the Creedmoor bullet with the nose cut off so only 520 grains in pure lead and only .451 diameter. Since these are "bore" diameter they would not go down my muzzle loader's bores so I sold them with the rifles and bought a new Buffalo arms Creedmoor mold that is 540 grains with pure lead and is .451 diameter. These new bullets are just a tad longer than the cartridge bullets, so same weight.

My latest flintlock was made with a Green Mountain 45-70 barrel blank. Groove diameter is 0.458", and it probably has a 0.450" bore diameter. Bullets of 0.451" weighing 450 gr load easily and are very accurate (Lyman 451114).

The 475 diameter molds make me want a .48 bore paper patching barrel every time I see them.
But I recon something nominally .46 is big enough unless the brontosaurs get in the tomatoes.

My favorite ML rifle is an English rifle I've displayed here before. It is a one-ounce round ball gun, of 66 caliber. I use 120 grains of FFFg for deer, and at 100 yards it is very accurate and drops them very quickly. The level of edible meat damage is very slight. It's a wonderful gun.
