Casting with an NOE 340-224 FN GC design and looking to shoot some light loads for a Ruger M77 in 338 WM. Looking for 1500 FPS range. Not wanting to mess with fillers. I don’t have unique but most other common powders. Anyone have any suggestions?

Let the beast out. Do not try and tame it. Sorry do not have any useful info. Just busting. Grab the 30-30 for light loads.

For reduced loads in my 338 Mag. with Accurate's clone of the 200 grain Lyman (338200) bullet, I use SR 4759, AA 5744 and AA 4350 or IMR 4198 powder, without any filler. Magnum primers for the Accurate and IMR powders. I find best accuracy between 1800 to 1900 fps. Cast bullet data is hard to find for this cartridge. Accurate's Number One powder manual, probably has the most.

Found some loads in my Lyman #4 using IMR-4227 and Rx7 which I have. I’ll pick up a pound of unique later next week if time allows.

I picked up the M77 years ago as a shooter and plinker for a price I couldn’t pass up. I also have my late fathers No1 in 338 WM to maybe send some down range. Will report back when I get a chance to load and shoot over the next few weeks

I found this. Enjoy that gun, I downloaded a .358 Norma and it was FUN.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180608/dab6d7a0b04732d31ca40f60e11364f7.jpg

I have been shooting the 338 WM several years using the Lee 220 gr. My rifle is a TCR. I don't recall the twist but when I first started out testing CB's in it, the boolits would not stabilize below 1650 fps. The rifle does really well out to 400 yards at an MV of 1750 fps. If only my iron sights had enough correction for elevation! Currently it is 11" high at 100 and dead on at 260 yards. Hopefully you won't make a similar discovery. On the other hand, it is a pure hoot to shoot ringing the gong at 300 not to mention being a lot more affordable. My favorite powders are 5744 and RE-7 without fillers.

4759 (if you can find it) and 5744 are my go to powders in the 300 Win Mag. No experience with the 338WM, but both those powders are solid in the big 300WM. Mine is a Ruger 77 with 1/10 twist, and best accuracy was in the 1850 fps range with conventionally lubed boolits. Pleasant to shoot and accurate as all get out.

Thanks for the advice. I see I’ll habe to up the velocity a little. I’ve got some Rx7 to try.

Can't tell ya where It came from and like all "good" internet data think before using this recommendation and all those other legal weasel words . . .

But

I heard 34.0 3031 Lee 220 grainer would give 1625fps and 39 1872 with GREAT accuracy.

I did not get the accuracy with the RCBS 200 grainer with 3031 but your gun may vary.
