I have a quantity of lead ingots that range from BHN of 5 to 13 according to the tester I bought from Buffalo Arms. It is made by ST Machining, LLC.
I am going to make batches of 10 pounds and add linotype nuggets to raise the BHN to around 16 - 18 for .44 mag, .41 mag and .357 max. If my mix prior to adding known linotype is a BHN of 10, how many pounds of linotype will it take to get the hardness to 16. I have no clue what my ingots are except for some old lead pipes that came from an old house. They are soft lead just over BHN of 5. Do I add .3% of linotype per lb., to the mix that is around BHN 10.

Here is the link to your question. The cast boolit notes from lasc.us found at the bottom of this forum page has a tremendous abount of info on everything you could ever want to know about casting, lead and reloading. Great info and great reading.
I don’t shoot hard lead, just checked boolits when needed.
Boolit FIT is King.

Good mixing, Mike
