100yrdopenchamp,
welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure I am understanding, but when you size a boolit in a .314 die, it should come out .314 assuming it was at least .314 or larger before sizing. If you need a .312 boolit, then you need a .312 die.

Installing a GC on a boolit using a Lee die will require the resistance of a boolit being sized down. If you have a boolit that starts out smaller that the diameter of the sizing die, there won't be enough friction for the action to properly seat and crimp a GC.

I usually don't criticize grammar, but when you just type words with no punctuation or breaks, and then attempting to get several ideas or details across, it's challenging for the reader to understand your situation.
Good Luck,
Jon

I think you need a .312 lee sizing die . Or are you going to size the boolits to .314 to shoot out of a .312 bore ?

Use a very soft fishing weight type chunk of lead , put some lube on it, and using a wooden dowel, push it or tap it through your barrel. Use caliper or micrometer, and measure the largest diameter on the lead plug you get. Your sized boolits should be .001 to .002 OVER that plug size. If your mold drops at .309, you'll never get them any larger than that. If your mold drops at .314, then you'll be in luck to reduce it to anything less than that. Buy a sizing die for .001 to .002 over the plug diameter you get. Hope this assists you and others.

I wouldn't recommend using a wooded dowel
