Well I made it to the range finally with my Accurate Mold 405 grain hard cast, sized to .459, Gator gas checks, with a BHN hardness of 23. 3 parts Linotype and 1 part pure lead, with 5 oz of 6% silver solder added. 42 grains of H4198, Starline brass, WLR primers, with a COL of 2.510, and White Label’s Carnauba Red lube gives me an average of 1824 fps over my chrono with a SD of 9 fps from my 22” barreled Marlin 1895 in 45-70. I loaded 20 rounds total for testing. After 17 rounds fired (which is a stout load but not uncomfortable) I used the last 3 rounds to fire my final group. All 3 of my final shots at 50 yards went through the same hole. That is a literal statement with no exaggeration. I am EXTREMELY happy with the mold and load combo. I will use this for any and everything I hunt. Deer, elk, hog, any bear or moose with nary a doubt in it doing its job and being “adequate”. I want to add, there was no leading and no fall off in accuracy. I have the spec sheet I can send anyone on the Accurate mold for anyone who wants it. It’s a .460 diameter mold designed to cast 420 grain bullets with hardball alloy. It throws 405 grains with my alloy and doesn’t fracture when struck repeatedly with a 4lb hammer on an anvil.
