View Full Version : help identifying bars of ?

Have 3 25lb, 25in. long bars . One is marked "made in America- this ingot is not to be sold- mold no 1626- patented with number". The other 2 are not marked. Kinda triangular shaped, with holes in the ends but the holes are not completely closed at the very end. Can't remember for sure, but think my father-in-law , rest his soul, gave them to me 35 or so years ago. He was a printer and had given me linotype before, in scrap form. Pretty hard stuff using the fingernail scratch method. HA! Don't know how to post pics. Anyone take a guess at what they might be.

That's how Linotype ingots are described. Like in THIS Cast Boolits thread from 2013 (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/archive/index.php/t-190983.html).

I agree, those sound like linotype pigs, or bars. Google "linotype" and you can find lots of info. Lino is a good alloy for adding to pure lead.
