I am having a barrel made for the 25 Krag AI 40degree cartridge. I emailed Q/L and he said that the cartridge is in the data base. I don't (yet) have the program. Could one of you give me an idea of what data is in his database?

Wayne,

I do not have all of the latest updates but the QuickLoad cartridge-caliber database contains two references to the 25 Krag.
25 Krag and 25 krag Improved
The only relevant information that the QuickLoad data provides are the constants of Maximum Pressure and cartridge case capacity. The remaining are calculated values determined by variables that refer to bullet and powder selection.

Some cartridge/caliber records have a reference to cartridge images loaded with QuickLoad. These two records do not have a drawing reference.

The Max Pressure listing for each is the same - 50763 psi, the only difference between the two is the cartridge case capacity.
25 Krag lists 56 grains of H2O-3.636 cc and the 25 Krag lists 60 grains of H2O-3.896 cc.

Hope this helps.

I was hoping for some loading data, boundaries at least, for the AI version that I am getting. Right now I have data for the 257 Roberts AI (2 gr water less than what I have) and for the 25-06 (2 gr water more than what I have). I can extrapolate from those and establish velocity - I have a chronograph - or use a case full of WC872 and drop down. I don't think I can overload this case with 872! Those are my two plans at this point. If I had direct data for this cartridge (I know, highly unlikely) it would be easier.

If I buy QL would I be able to put in bullet size (weight/length) and powder and get approximate pressure/velocity in a 24" barrel? I've never seen or looked at QL in the past.

QuickLoad does not offer a database of loads. At least my version doesn't.
It does contain extensive databases of Cartridge case capacities, bullet weights and lengths and a large list of foreign and domestic powders.
However, my older databases do not contain any surplus powders and I doubt that the latest do either. Perhaps someone with the latest updates could verify this.
You would need to substitute a readily available commercial powder with the same burn rate to estimate what your WC862 powder would do.

You select a cartridge, a bullet and a powder then enter a charge weight and QuickLoad calculates a number of different aspects of the powder burn.

Or you can also specify characteristic values and parameters and Quickload will calculate powder charges that meet those characteristics.

A list of all powders charges that meet the parameters.

Sorry, I forgot to edit the barrel length in the previous post from 32" to 24".
If you decide to order the software and after you get the hang of using it, you will wonder why you waited so long to order it.

FWIW I recently got the latest update and the program works just like Tom Myers explained. It has been one of the best reloading tools that I had no idea how great it would be for looking up loads to get a rough estimate especially for wildcats. To make it as accurate as it can be you'll need to adjust the water capacity of your cases to the generic one given in QL. Doing so often but not always the QL guestimate is within 5-20 fps of the actual chronograph average. I bought QL back about 5 years ago when powder and primers were often missing from dealer shelves.
