Mihec 359640

Just received my first Mihec brass mold. I've been casting for close to ten years and this is my first brass mold. Kinda nervous. The 360460 mold is my favorite and most accurate 357 mag mold so, I'm wondering if anyone has a good medium to moderate load for the 359640? Currently my two most used powders are unique and be86 but I am open to all suggestions. I should have mentioned that this is the solid version, supposedly weighing in at 170gr.

I like unique also. And I have 3 molds from Miha, They work great, picky on temp. My 500 molds like 720-730 lead temp and I preheat them the whole time the lead is getting ready, close to 370-400. the 44 is not a picky bit the HP pins get sticky, started using moly coating just on the pins and it works great

I'm not home to double check how many grains but a friend and I have been using blue-dot with our 170 grain semi-wadcutters in our 357mags with great luck. Please don't rely on my memory and check your book but it is my recollection that we are at 8.5 grains

I’ve always been a fan of 2400. There are so many good powders for our magnum cartridges that span from just beyond squib load to full on magnum. It would probably be easier to suggest a load based on the powders you have or intend to have.

I like 7.0 grains of Unique in the 357 or 5.2 grains in the 38 with that boolit. Mine casts right at 160 grains with the large round pins. I mostly shoot the 38 version, as I have several S&W's and Colts to feed.

I got the same brass mold recently. I really like it. I managed to stuff one in a 9mm case and it plunks easy, but my seater squished the hp a little. Doesn’t look like much room for powder, but I would like to try something. Any suggestions?

I was finally able to get out and cast with my new 359640 mould. Being brass, I did not know what to expect. Thankfully, everything went lots better than expected. Mould cast great, boolits dropped with, at the most a light tap to the handles and there was no problem getting good fill out.

The only thing that I question are the as cast dimensions. The bottom drive band comes in at .358-.359 and the middle band at .356.5-.375.5. Now what really threw me is the top or front band. This one measures .351.5-to at the max .353. Can this be right? Does the mould need more breaking in or what? All bands are sharp and clean with no rounding or imperfections. Maybe that is how it was designed but those measurements threw me for a loop when it was all done. With the mould # being what it is, I was thinking that all bands would be at least .359.

Any advice or enlightenment y'all could offer would be welcome.

Yeah i really didn’t figure on loading this, I just wanted to stuff it in a case cause I figured it would look good, but to my surprise passed the case gauge...then I thought what if?
