View Full Version : Can a pistol barrel be stubbed?

Example: I have a Ruger P95 9mm barrel with a bulge midway down the barrel. I have replaced it with another barrel.
My question is, can the damaged barrel be stubbed for .22 TCM or .30 Luger?
I'm wondering if there is enough meat in the chamber area? Thanks!

I would think you might be able to sleeve it to 22 TCM
Just put the barrel on a lathe and turn the outer bulge area back down to correct OD

Make sure it's still straight, bulge will stretch more on one side. Mar need to true outside for function, hard to put metal back on as well:)

I have turned it back down. But after firing about 20 rds I can feel the bulge returning. I just wonder about the work I mentoned on the damaged barrel.
My P95 is back in action with a used barrel that I purchased online. It came with another complete slide so I was thinking about a TCM or .30 Luger top half. If the stub job is feasible.

Tex I have made 38spc barrels by lining 45 acp barrels.
You may have to cut behind the bulge and fit by stepping the insert from od of original barrel to insert into what remains of the original barrel. I silver soldered inserts in place.

Before you turn the barrel down make a set of swedge blocks and put it in a press and swedge it back to near the original size. Actually if you make a mandrell for the bore and a good swedge you can usually save the barrel.

Not familiar with the P95 but I had a S&W M52 sleeved for a faster twist .38 SPL barrel.

I have a stubbed GI .45 ACP barrel that a gunsmith made for me many years ago. It works well enough.

I have seen 2 1911s with the barrels sleeved down to 32 S&W long for wadcutter guns. they worked well and were very accurate. Mags were more of an issue

The .32 Long is interesting.

Sorry, I was interrupted. The .32 S&W long wadcutter oal is perhaps too great for the 9x19 mag. It bears scrutiny though.

These were 1911s originally 45s. I believe the original AMU wadcutter 38s were sleeved 45 barrels also
