I have a 73 lb chunk of lead from a shower pan that was given to me. I’d like to use it to cast as many 230 gr boolits as i can get from it.

I wonder if just adding enough tin to get good fill out for would suffice for 45 ACP (850-900 fps). I was thinking of trying to get by with 1% tin/pewter (about 12 oz) I mostly use my Lyman to lube with Felix lube but have been experimenting with Hi-Tek which worked pretty well for my 357.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Randy

The several shower pans I have used in the past were not "pure" lead, but were "soft" and had a little antimony in them. I added 1% tin to cast .38 Special and .45 Colt revolver bullets lubed with Lee Liquid Alox and had good results. I don't see why it wouldn't work for .45 ACP.

Did I miss something about antimony? Always thought you used it to harden lead alloys. Tin for flowability and antimony to increase hardness, pure lead was the softest you could get.

A light to moderate load of fast burning powder and it should be just fine.
