Yikes! Seems that Ruger needs to watch those investment satings or the shooter needs to back off his loads.

That gives me a new prospective on new guns, I always load and fire just one round through just to be sure I know what will happen, but wow! With no mention of damage to the scope, (I'm sure he would have been pissed at a broken Leupold) I now have much greater respect for Leupold scopes.

Poor fella. After looking at the pictures and reading the thread it would seem likely Ruger owes him a least a new barrel even if it wasn't bought new.

I don't think that was caused by too hot of a load. It sure looks like a defect in the barrel to me. I've got a SRH on order and hopefully I won't hve that kind of problem. I do think Ruger will make that guys revolver good, probably a new one so he will really come out on that deal.

My son's .38 Spl. SP101 also broke at the frame junction with a 4.0 gr. WW231 / 148 gr. Wadcutter load. It was some sort of "steel/lube/tolerance/who knows" incompatibility problem, which they have fixed but won't tell about. They fixed & returned the gun with no charge and no comment. Believe me, they don't like to have 2-piece Ruger pictures floating around the net.

the barrel broke off from being over torqued .
a few barrels that ruger changed the type of lube on had to be really torqued to get them aligned correctly & they would snap off .
thus was born the super red hawk.

Shouldn't have to worry about that Leupold, if I'm not mistaken they are guaranted for life...?

ruger had a know problem with some of the earlier redhawks. Supposidly thats why they designed the super with the frame extension. Rummor back then was that ruger was going to discontinue the redhawks. Thankfully it never happened. I had a partner at work that the same thing happened to back in about 1985

I own a RH identical to the one pictured, I bought it right after they came out. Mine has over 10K heavy loads through it, and never a problem. Sure makes you think.....
