Anyone cast for .224? And push them hard?
I want to cast for a 5.56 chambered rifle and want to push them in the high 2000 fps range. Seems like a GC boolit that is PC'd might be able to do it?

I got the RCBS mold for my 223 and I only loose about an 1" at 100 yards. IMR 4198 and CCI primers. Fun to shoot. Over 2000 fps but not high 2000's. I stopped load development at 5 rounds in one hole. Info from Lyman Cast book.

I think that the .22 Cal. # 90451 C225-55-RF is probably the biggest selling 225 caliber mold out there. I am pretty sure many folks push it over 2000 fps with a gas check and powder coat.

100$ old flat back 110,22-250,pencil thin brrl. Lee,not bator 55 @2600+.Razor sharp metplat on a "well fitted" CB hits/chunks varmints,HARD.Thin skinned crows end up in 3 or 4 chunks, strewn out a cpl feet.Won't post groups for fear of being called a liar.Slow 12 or 14 twist?Got a new to me R700V 223 with a 12 twist.Where the 110 is for/at in the game fields,am shooting(ha)for target work with longer strings of fire for the 700.Good luck with your project.

That has been the goal of many, not only in the 5.56 cartridge (.223 Rem also) but many other calibers/cartridges as well. Use the search function and you will find a plethora of information.

I have been interested in this mold by NOE : 225-51-SP-BA5 3 cavity PB (225450) Just curious if anyone has had any experience with it. Looks to be a nice bullet profile.

NOE 225-55 @62 gr .
Darrs lube , modified light on Vaseline heavy on STP.
H322
2600+ 1" in a 24" Savage 222 1-12"
2050>< 2.5" in Mossberg barreled 223 16" AR 1-8" nom 3" with factory fmj .
Same results with NIB Axis with 1-8" 1-1.5 with everything fed to date .

Harder alloy than my WD 75-25 WW-1/20+copper would probably give higher velocities . I have a great load so development has stopped until I get a heavy for the fast twist .

I've been doing just what you thought would work. PC and GC to drive over 2000 fps. I did find that .225 worked better than .224. Doing it in a 9" twist.
