I’d like to begin this post with a thank you to the the big bore guys who give their knowledge and experience freely: Lloyd Smile, 44man, Whitworth, Dixie Slugs, and lastly whom I consider the 480 Ruger maestro, Paul H. You’re contributions mean a lot to novices like myself.

So, I love the 480 Ruger and the Super Redhawk, biggest baddest sixgun combo out there but I wanted to maximize their potential. I'll preface by agreeing if 400gr won't do it, then 440gr won't either but I just wanted to join the 1oz slug club with my SRH.

Paul had posted about shooting a 400gr XLFN and a 460gr WFN but I could not find anyone who has tried a long nose 440gr to maximize powder capacity in the Ruger case so I took it upon myself to give it a go.

Dan from Mountainmolds (great quality and speedy delivery wow!) cut the mold for me, a 475-440 boolit with an extra long nose and a wide meplat to keep the shank short enough for 23-24 grains of H110/296. I've only tried a few rounds with 23gr of 296 and they shoot just fine and accurately at 25yrds. Real test will be tuning some loads for 50yrds and hopefully 100yds.

Man making your own bullets is one thing, making your own design is a whole other level of pride. Sorry for the pics, they're oriented correctly on my desktop but no matter how I play with loading them, some won't post upright..
Anyway, thanks again to all, happy shooting. I'll follow up with more loads and results

Nice looking rig for some serious handgun hunting! I bought a Freedom Arms .475 Linebaugh years ago before the .480 Ruger came out. Let us know how those bullets perform when you get to test them at 50-100 yards.

Dang..... I might need to get me one of those molds. I'm gonna watch to see how they shoot too!

That my friend, is one serious piece of lead. I watch all threads that have 480 in the title. I am always looking for info that I can use in mine. Let us know how it shoots at 100 yrds.
