Do you think this portable handheld Electric Melting pot is just too small?

(I have no idea what this thing is... I think it has something to do with golf. It’s interesting the things people give you when they know you cast boolits.)

Is it bottom pour? If so, it's a bit on the small side🤣

May have been from the jewelry trade for melting precious metals to cast into jewelry. Broaches, earings, pins, clasps, don't take a lot of material and melting large amounts of gold, silver, is a big expense. This is more plausible to me than others.

Looks like a long day of casting with that

The person that gave it to me said it was inside a box labeled “Kenneth Smith Golf” along with other golf related items.

Do golfers cast tiny boolits? :)

I’m not sure... send me some gold and I’ll give it a try. :)

you've got my curiosity up on this. Do you have something with a known (relatively high) melt temp like antimony that you could drop in it?

No antimony. Nothing but the usual tin and lead.

A zinc wheel weights melt point is in the upper range. It might give an idea of the temp this operates at. Or a small piece of something die cast.

What is the bowl made out of? If it is aluminum (melting point 1200°F), then it's not for gold and silver jewelry. If it is steel, then it will handle much higher temps.

The fishing jigs that I have seen poured used about the same size ladle we would use for boolits.

I too, am curious to know what it was for.

Ah, good point. It’s not attracted to a magnet and it’s pretty light. I’m going to say it’s cast aluminum.

Do drivers have various weights? I dunno, I don't play golf...

I’m not a golfer but According to my extensive sixty seconds of Google research, they sell lead tape, lead powder and other weights for golf clubs but I don’t see anything relating to pouring lead into a club.

I have a very large soldering iron that looks very much like that, except mine has a giant chisel tip.

Mine gets incredibly hot. Like the whole thing will glow red in broad daylight if you're not paying attention.

think the golf pros can drill and pour weight into the head of clubs to fine tune them to the golfer's requirements.

like tweaking a gun stock to fit the shooter perfectly

It would be interesting to find out what it was made for. It looks to be too small to cast with.
