I just bought a new Ruger #1V in 243. The 2 scope mounting bases are using the 4 holes near the action. There are 2 more threaded holes about 6 inches forward of the front base. They have threaded plugs in them. What mounting system are they for? This is the only #1 I have without the quarter rib.

If memory serves, they are for the external mounts, like Unertl.

Unertl type scope and mount, I believe. Had a 1V 22-250 years ago, and seen to recall that mine had a mount block screwed into that front location

The back 4 should be for a one piece mount and 2 of the back holes and the 2 fronts are for 2 piece blocks. If memories serves me.

Thanx for the replies. More curious than anything. Ruger customer service said they were not factory drilled. Distributor has 3 more just like it with 6 tapped holes from the factory. Lost some faith in Ruger.

Any varmint barreled factory gun of note back then had those same holes. Remington and Winchester did.

if this pic works here the top and center #1V rifles have mounts on the blocks. The center rifle has a setback ring on the rear. Both rifles using Ruger mediuim rings
