Not looking for load data, just curious if their 6th edition has data for light (300g) 12ga sabot loads.

Thanks,

BB

I'm not sure if I have the 5th or 6th. I'm pretty sure I have data for the thug slugs in it. They never had data in their slug manual for their old or new sabot, you had to ask for the separate brochure. Lots of Rio and Fiocchi data I'm sure, I've come to really dislike BPI manuals. If you buy any, buy the advantages manual. It is a collection of all their manuals.

Seems to me my old BPI slug manual has data for the 300 gr. sabot slugs... or I have the data sheets but I'm pretty sure I have some.

What exactly are you looking for? Components? I'll take a look for you.

I have 3D printed sabots that hold 44 cal bullets. With the slow 12ga twist I need to have a MV at least 1,600 fps to stabilize a 300g 44 bullet. I have no problem working up a load, but if data is out there would be foolish of me to not use it.

Greetings BikerBeans, the Lee mold for 300 gr bullet actually weight 310 gr on their .45 cal bullet.
Here are the loads that we had tested from 1474 fps and up:

Please do not try the powder charges mentioned in Red!
Do you think the 3D printed Sabots will hold high pressure loads and will not shatter ? ?
Hoping it helps.

Best regards,

Thanks Ajay,

My experience loading sabots for shotguns is limited. I plan to test in a 18.5" barrel H&R Tracker II. I figure a shorter barrel will make cleaning plastic from the rifling easier.

Not going to be an issue, we used to run the cleaning rod every few shots.
Just can't wait to hear about your results.

Best of luck.

I just got the 7th Ed of the BPI slug manual, and the only sabot loads it lists are for 7/8 oz LBC sabot slugs.
All are with Rio/Fiocchi/Cheddite hulls. No Rem/Win/Fed hulls listed for LBC sabot slugs.

Yup! My old (2003) BPI manual has load data for the 300 gr. collet cup sabot for .450" bullet. Turns out I also have one of their data sheets for the same bullet. Not sure why I got that but must have just ordered a bunch.

I can scan and send if you want the load data.

BB:

Looks like I don't have your e-mail address and I don't think I can attach to PM so here you go:

217178
217179

I didn't check to see if the data is a repeat. Sometimes the data sheets are the same as the manual and sometimes they are not.

Hmmm, these attachments seem kinda big but it looks like they worked. I can download them from Cast Boolits anyway.

If they don't work just PM me your e-mail and I'll e-mail them to you.

Always a wealth of data here. Good luck. I'm looking for DIY sabots for my 2 Marlin 512 Slug masters.

NY357,

Check the groove diameter of your 512s, mine is 0.727". My H&R barrel is 0.731" and my hastings is 0.732". The slug r us sabots have a stated diameter of 0.727" so might be a candidate for a rifled barrel with a tight bore.

I have to a assemble the sabots I have and measure the diameter and see which shotgun they will fit the best. I will let you know what happens.

I just purchased the 7th edition slug loading and the 10th edition Advantages manuals from BPI The layout of loads is going to take time to get used to. I find the Lyman shotgun loading manuals easier to use but may be just what I'm used to. I was hoping to find some 20ga and 410 round ball loads. Gp

I prefer the Lyman layout as well. A lot less fumbling around to find what you are after for me.

My favourite so far is Reloading for Shotgunners. I like the layout and the fact that for most powders and component combinations they list multiple powder charges and pressures.

The slug section isn't real large in my edition though.

LB,

I have a recent edition of reloading for shotgunners and there are a fair number of slug loads. The lightest slug loads are 7/8 oz lee slugs and they don't show any sabot/pistol bullet loads.

Maybe it's time I sprung for another edition! The one I have has quite limited slug data, good manual overall though.

BB & LB: If you guys come across a new manual that has more than a load or two for the Lee 7/8 slug in 12ga and some roundball loads for 20 & 12 make sure and let me know. The BPI manuals seem to be more like a sales catalog for special purpose wads. When I already have hundreds of Win, Rem, and Federal wads it would be nice to see a few of those mentioned in their load data also. Gp

I'll take a look at what I have for 12 ga. I do have a few recipes for the Lee 7/8 oz. slug and some round ball recipes in one of my old Lyman manuals. I generally use wads I have on hand and cut petals and/or space balls or slugs as required on nitro card wads.

Mostly the round balls get loaded to same weight slug recipe with height adjusted for crimp as required.

Yes, the BPI slug manual tends to use BPI components which I don't have ready access to.

Don't forget that BPI also has their Load of the Week archives and they have Lee slug data in there as well. Again, they end to list their components but I don't worry about wads much.

I wish Lee would put together a comprehensive loading manual for their slugs using a variety of powders and readily available wads, hulls and primers. That would be nice and usable for other equal weight slugs.
