I have been emailing back and forth with Tom from Accurate molds about getting a mold made for my 8x57JR with .318 groove. In my gun it's closer to .319. Tom told me I needed to know the chamber throat diameter for the design I liked. 32-194P. So I got on Ebay and for 11 bucks got some Cerrosafe and made a chamber cast. The gun is a Drilling so I could remove the barrels and that made making the cast much easier. I then waited 1 hour and took some measurements. Found out the groove diameter was bigger then the .318 I thought from slugging it. I had used a piece of buckshot and think I didn't get enough upset . Now here is where me being lazy comes in. I didn't want to take the time to make a good sketch so I took a pic of the chamber cast against a white background and then uploaded and open the pic in Paint on my Windows computer. Not sure what Mac would use. Paint lets you draw on the pic to dimension it how you want. Here are the before and after pics. I also "snipped" or took a screenshot of the design from Tom's catalog and saved it and opened it in Paint and erased the dimensions I wanted to change and Inserted new numbers. Then sent him the changed print. My new mold is 32-196P. Shown here from Tom's catalog.Hope this helps ordering a new mold. Tom liked the chamber pic enough to ask if he could use it as an example for his customers.
I hope to use this for close range Blacktail hunting here in Oregon. I wanted a thumper. Now I need to work up a Round Ball load for the left shotgun barrel. A poor man's double rifle.
