I posted some time ago that I had to chamber cast an Arisaka in Ackley 30 No. 1. I'm hoping someone here with more case forming experience can answer a quick question about it.
It comes in with an overall case length of 2.48, and it is normally formed from the .300 H&H.
Can it also be formed from .300 Winchester Magnum? This appears to be the same, and would go into the forming die, but would have to be trimmed back from 2.61. Obviously, it's a lot easier to put hands on .300 Winchester mag brass. So the short question is "will that work, or do I have to buy .300 H&H?"

It's a 'belted Magnum' case, expand/resize 7mm Rem Mag might be easier, resize/shorten 300 Win Mag, any 'belted Magnum' brass can be resized shortened. Yes, quibblers, Weatherby has larger and smaller belted cases, there may others, BUT the 'standard belted Magnum' family will all work - 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag sre probably easiest to get, I would start with the 7mm Rem Mag, just be careful neck expanding the first time.

I have a set of dies and Trim. I have made them Both ways . It is a lot easier to make from 300 h&H. To make from 300 win mag you will have to break the Big shoulder to form correctly and need a strong machine with Vg leverage. But they can be done.
any other Big Bottle necks would be The same

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I do the digging for .300 H&H.

Just use .300 Win Mag. Or 7mm Rem Mag. Any compound leverage press has enough power to deal with the shoulder. And it is only one time per case.
