Should I pull the trigger...NEF 2 with barrels

Have the opportunity to buy a frame with a 223 barrel with sight base and 243 barrel with irons and site base. Also comes with youth stock set. Price is $320, but I'm going to ha e to drive 3 hours round trip to get it. Is it worth it?

I have not even been seeing the rifles in shops anymore. Last time I looked on ebay, a barrel was almost $300.

They are just about giving away 243's on Graybeards board. My advice spend the $300 on a Savage or the like, I know that you won't have two bbls but you will have a great 223 or 243 that you can do everything with and it will shoot. I had a 243 and had a hard time getting it to group under 3" at 100 yards with 100grainers. If you just want to shoot go with a good bolt in 223 it's very cheap to reload or just buy factory ammo. If you want to hunt with the 243 you'll be disappointed in the H&R only able to use 70/80grain bullets because of the twist rate. If something goes wrong with the H&R you are out of luck. Bbls are running about $120 or so on Graybeards, ebay is nuts.

That is a SB2 receiver on top of everything. You can't find a barrel for $150 anymore so if you like one caliber over the other you can recoup half your money in a heartbeat. If you have the money and are a fan of the NEF you can't go wrong. I am broke or would have jumped on that Have several Handi Rifles from H&R but triggers are horrible compared to the NEF. Not often you find one with 2 barrels anymore, and the plus of open sights on 243 and youth stock would be great if you have young shooters to teach. I just almost talked myself into selling a gun and buying it LOL. PM me back if you get it Oily.

Guess I got sidetracked when I was typing the title.
Should have mentioned I have 6 223s and a 243 that I shoot and reliad for already, but I have a 7 & 8 year old, both are small for their age. The youth stock is what sealed the deal. Thanks for the comments and thoughts

.223 barrel alone is worth that. .243's have a somewhat rocky reputation. I think mostly they don't like the longer bigger bullets. Stick to 80's and smaller and do a good load workup and you should be fine.

Receivers alone are 70-90 for SB2 rifle receiver.
Stock sets are 50-100.

2 barrel set that both fit same receiver is probably worth near double that figure.

I recently paid 300$ for an old but in excellent shape topper 158. Pre-transfer bar, in .30-30 with a 20 ga shotgun barrel with it. Sold as a combo like that.

I felt like I stole it, he felt like he'd hit the jackpot.

Pawn shop offered their usual 1/3 to 1/4 what they feel they can sell it for price. 125$.
You do the math. We cut out the middleman and both of us walked away happy.

If you see the barrels try both of them on the action to make sure they lock up tight. You will have to have the front grip attached to the barrel to make sure everything mates OK

He said they are both fitted when I asked. Its from a local gun forun so I trust him more than an average Joe. Still not a bad idea to swap them before we finish the deal

We drive 3 hours round trip for groceries sometimes. @ 20 mpg and $2.75 fuel that isn't adding $27 to the cost of the gun @ 80 MPH.

Just that you're purchasing them for kids -- is WONDERFUL! -- and I wish many, many more did so. I'd think it be worth the money and the time just for the legacy you're enabling! Kudos!

Thanks to all who posted their thoughts. I ended up getting them and have had two chances to shoot the 223. I stole a scope off an 06 since it doesnt have irons and took 3 different rounds Ive got worked up for other rifles to the range. The 55 gr hornady sp over benchmark was under an inch at 50 when I got the scopes zero adjusted. I keyholed a 60 gr vmax. It patterned a 70gr speer, but they went in straight so that may be a game getting round for the kids in a few years. Today I was shooting at plates at 100 and around 200+ yards and the little 55 grainers were making the mark. Super excited I pulled the trigger on the package, at some point I'll give the 243 upper a whirl
