There was a recent discussion about home made Star sizing dies, and what a waste of material and time that .880" flange was on the top. I decided to do an experiment. Instead of machining the flange or using a circlip, I made an adapter plate to prevent a .750" straight die from falling through the sizing/lubing chamber. It requires no alteration of the Star lubrisizer, and the original flanged dies can still be used. Here's what it looks like, it's between the bottom of the Star and the mounting plate:

Here's a comparison of one of my flanged dies and the "de-flanged" version:

I also made a smaller die removal tool, because the adapter plate hole is 1/2" in diameter. The original Star die removal tool is .625" in diameter and won't fit through the smaller opening.

Just brilliant. I love clever thinking made in metal.

Today I finished the smaller die removal tool, reaming the new die, and tried it out. Worked perfectly, and no leakage at either end.

In the original post, the pictures where there. I used a photo hosting site that apparently has gone toes up, so I put them on photobucket and I'm reposting them again.
