215825215826215827 Cast my first boolits tonight. Really appreciate everything learned from this site. It went well all in all, but one side of them is frosty looking. I tried playing with the mold and alloy temp with the same results. I'm thinking maybe the dawn dish soap didn't adequately remove the oils from a portion of the new mold. I'll try carb cleaner on it and see if that helps. Definitely going to have to play with this a bit more before sending off for hollowpoint conversion. This is too much fun.

Frosty is from higher temp. Wrinkles are from oil or a too cold mold/alloy. If there is a breeze blowing across your casting area sometimes you can have one block cooler than the other. Not usually, but have had it happen. Frosty is not a problem.

What caliber? A no lube groove mold for coating?

Maybe they are slight wrinkles. That side of of the boolit is definitely not as smooth as the other. 44 mag, and yes I am powder coating them for suppressor use.

44 Mag? Those have to be 300 grain or so! Nice!!!

I haven't weighed them yet but am guessing without the grooves around 360 or so. Should be a thumper at 1000fps.

I've seen this myself when I open the mold and look at the bullet when it's still laying in the half of the mold. One side is staying hot longer than the other before I drop it into the water bucket.
