Actually its not really glue. I removed some decals and I need to remove the remaining sticky stuff. Mineral spirits did not cut it. PVC pipe cleaner it thinning the paint more than I want. Windex removed a little of it with a lot of muscle on my part. Any suggestions?

Lacquer thinner works for most stickers

Lacquer thinner or Turpentine will do it

It all depends on the type of adhesive. I've used Xylol, Denatured Alcohol, Paint Thinner, or Acetone...depending on the surface and type of sticker glue.

[EDIT] - also try WD40.

Just test a small area first if it has a finish you don't want damaged.

I know this sounds weird but if you know anyone that lays asphalt, see if they can get soy solv. Its a bio degradable solvent for removing asphalt oil but it works wonders on adhesives.

auto parts store or automotive paint supply store should have adhesive remover for most automotive type decals

I've had very good luck with Goo-Gone removing sticky stuff.

In some cases I use it to soften and unstick it a bit then use a plastic credit card to scrape it loose. Then clean one last time with goo-gone and a soft cloth.

I'm a firm believer in that stuff. Works wonders on cosmolene.

Another one to try is Nail Polish Remover.

DNA will probably cut it, but have you tried simple green? It will cut a lot of adhesives.

Most of the above mentioned are good, excepting acetone. That only if on something that the finish is be re done or on a bare metal or glass surface.

Isopropyl alcohol will work on some, better that lacquer thinner. Thinner evaporates too fast, starts to work and then gums up when it dissipates.

Be careful that there is no dirt stuck to the remaining adhesive, if you start rubbing hard it will scratch the painted surface along with removing the glue. Been there, done that! HTH.

I've used GooGone and WD 40 on various types of adhesives. I've used Hope's No 9 on left over glue from stickers and it worked as well

When I worked at the TV/appliance shop we used WD-40 to remove labels, or cigarette lighter fluid.

On some ice rubbed on it cools breaks the bond when it cools the adhesive rubbing it off. Just let the ice cube melt some to remove any sharp edges before rubbing

As said by other posts, WD 40. That's my go to for any type of adhesive used with paper. Also works well with magic marker. Just remove and then spray window cleaner on the surface to remove/degrease the WD 40. 4 or 5 years ago, one of my grandsons was to pitch a game on the last day of school. He thought getting his classmates to autograph his arm would be neat. Our umpires wouldn't let kids pitch if they had any distractors on them. I took WD 40 and a paper towel and got it all off, then had him wash up good. Worked fine. I did put a little on the inside of his elbow and watched it for a while to make sure he wouldn't have irritation from it before I did it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll pick up some WD-40 and give it a try. Love the smell!

They may not all be alike, but I found real turpentine worked when the substitute we call white spirit wouldn't, and a lot of other things are more likely to damage the finish. It isn't that easy to find any more, but an artists' materials shop will certainly have it.

Also, you might try some go-jo hand cleaner (NOT with pumice though).

WD40 seems to excel at this task. Spray and let it soak a couple of seconds and then wipe away.

+1 on "WD40"
the nice thing about it, it doesn't eat into paint and does melt plastics.
Sometimes, on real old label adhesive, where the label almost falls off, but the old dried adhesive is still on the "thing", I'll coat the area with WD40 and let it sit over night.
Then once adhesive is removed, I clean the WD40 off the "thing" with Iso Alc.

When WD40 don't cut it, then I will try 100% Citrus/orange oil(if you can find it?) and if that don't work, I move to the more aggressive stuff as a last resort, like MS, or Acetone, or Lacquor thinner...THEN I give up, LOL.

First thing I always try is WD-40. Spray it on, wait until it get soft, and wipe off with a napkin.
If the glue is old and hard, and the surface finish is not a concern, WD-40 and steal wool.

Believe it or not peanut butter will cut some adhesives. I wonder if Kroil will work its way under the surface and break the bond? Normally, I try Isoprop first then goo gone then work up from there.

Warm it up with a heat gun. Then roll it off with your fingers, or use an oil based solvent, at listed above.

Can't believe nobody suggested Hoppes #9. Nearly everyone has some, and it works on a lot of glues.

Baby oil.

No kidding. Mrs Bookworm convinced me. It works, I see it all the time.

Also good for removing oil base paint from your skin.

+1 on the heat gun. Friend was sent new borosilicate glass for his 3d printer, but they used filament tape (the really strong nasty adhesive stuff) to hold the padding TO the glass; Used a heat gun to soften it and it came right off. If we hadn't had that it would have gotten tough! Lots of options here :)

3m makes a very good adhesive remover.

I've had great luck in general with acetone.. but watch plastics.

Fast reducers with heptane also seem to work well.

Thanks again for the suggestions. WD-40 is cleaning it up pretty good. Prolly have to use some Windex to remove that but that should be easy.

M. E. K. or its Substitute. Can be bought at a hardware store. Smells strong, but I have never used anything that works as fast on adhesives.
