Which is the preferred way to inlet a Mauser barreled action.... do the barreled action first or do the bottom metal ( trigger guard ) first.

Doing the bottom metal first gives you a way to keep the action going in straight.

That is correct. Not set in stone, but that's how the books teach it, and how most stockmakers do it.

Do bottom metal first you will have better looking finished results

Doing the barreled action first sets you up with lots of problems to proceed past that point. Always bottom first.

Makes sense. That’s what I have been doing in the past until I read a how-to on another site. Thanks for confirming my thoughts!

Nothing to add except to use headless guard screws to guide the barreled action into the previously inletted bottom metal.
