went out to the range this morning
35 Whelen,,,, 24gr/2400...CCI200....200 gr 358315 RN sized .358 ...GI Brass
at 50 yds the smallest group was 4" dia. and the largest was 6" dia. I didn't this this was looking too hopeful in terms of accuracy.
But
at 100 yds I was consistently (as in 100%) shooting 4" dia. clays

Is it possible that this boolit would be stabilizing between 50 and 100 yds?

thanks for looking

went to the range again today.....testing the .35 Whelen with the 200 gr boolit
this time I reloaded 10 rounds with 2400 and standard primers
and 10 rounds with same powder and mag primers.
The other thing I changed was the way I sized the boolits. My first posting on 2-27 was using 0.358" sized diameter

This time I seated the gas check on all 20 rounds without sizing the main driving band of the boolit. So at the base with the gas check the dia. was 0.358, but the main driving band was left as cast at 0.362. I then had to pan lub the boolits.

The load with the standard primers gave me a 3 shot group at 50 yds of just under 1/2 wide by 3" vertically.
The load with the magnum primers gave me a 3 shot group at 50 yds of 3/4" x 3/4"

At 100 yds I was drilling the clays on the side of the hill...

my next test will be with increasing the charge from 24 gr to 25 grains and again using the pan lube method and retaining the .0362 as cast dia.

That reads like progress. You are zeroing in on the load as well as the target.
