Ministry.........to minister to others .
To hear the word ministry most think of a church , a pastor , a large Christian program or organization but that is not the real answer . You could and should have a ministry , Christ had a ministry ....to teach us , to show us the way and to die for us to provide salvation and eternal life .
Matthew 20;20-28

Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.
21 And He said to her, “What do you wish?”
She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”
22 But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
They said to Him, “We are able.”
23 So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.”
24 And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Reread verse 28
— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

John 13;1-17
Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
2 And supper being ended,[a] the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
8 Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”
12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

Lets reread 14-17

Our Lord himself taught by example . We were the focus of his ministry , he loves us beyond our understanding of love .

Well heck I'm getting close to preaching and I'm not a preacher . I have a high school education and am not smart enough to preach but this message is obvious and can not be denied .

Lets get back to the word ..ministry . It is actually a simple way anyone can use what GOD given ability you have to serve GOD and others around you . We should all have a personal ministry to give service , it's what Christ came to teach us if you remember his second great commandment ;
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

A personal ministry can be lay preaching , teaching , tending the sick , comforting the dying , witnessing , cleaning the church , caring for shut ins .... . We are all given abilities and talents by GOD to do his work in different ways that add up to the whole .

The work is out there , the gospel needs be spread by word and acts . If you don't have one you might think of starting a 'ministry' . Jesus has taught and shown us how .

Thank you Boaz. What a wonderful thoughtful message. We are all called to do what our different God given abilities demand. All Glory goes to God.

Actually, that's the wrong question. Jesus said "You will be ambassadors for me" - notice the absolute "will be". The question we need to face is "What kind of ambassador am I right now?"

I am absolutely convinced that, if I am available to God, He will use me. No matter my age, my IQ, my education, or my physical condition, if I am available He will use me. That is my ministry - being available. He can take care of the rest.

Good post Charlie.

BTW, my dad had a grade six education and was one of the best men I have ever known. Education is not the same as intelligence. And neither does any good if not used to serve.

I was raised to believe that the best ministry I can have is by example. If I live a good Christian life and follow scripture people hopefully will see that God works. I don't know if that applies as a ministry or not, but I believe a good life is the best example.

Jim, Bishop Anslem said it best "Testify to God, if necessary, use words". If my life does not back up my words they are empty and useless.
