Yeah but an M38 was made for the low pressure 6.5x55. Brownells sells barrels to redo them to 35 Remington. Building one in 358 Win is pushing things if someone put full house j-bullet loads in it. Nice rifle for cast though. A lot of $ for an older small ring rifle.

It'll be great. It'll handle the factory pressure loads better than your shoulder will....
Great action, great cartridge, and Maple.

Beautifully done rifle. Especially the but plate inletting. That particular style of butt plate is really hard to get right. I don't like light colored wood but I could live with that stock. I have a similar tiger tailed stock on my .50 caliber Hawken except I stained mine a slightly darker color. I am amazed at the money people are willing to put into a "safe queen", which is what that one will most likely end up being. It is one beautiful rifle. james

It's still cheaper than a lot of rifles with NO personality and looks to match...........

That makes no sense.
A military Swede bored to .358.
Notice the stepped barrel.
For all the trouble and expense of that stock & sights, why hold on to the military stepped barrel?
Yeah, it's pretty, but for all that work, why the stepped barrel?
For God's sake, why the stepped barrel?

Lots made and much cheaper to buy a 9.3x57 in a 96 /38 action at least the pressure is sane.

Some people like stepped barrels and have the gunsmith turn them that way.

And what is wrong with a stepped barrel? It is no worse than a maple stock.

The "British Model" of Mauser built sporters featured the stepped barrel and double stage military type trigger. According to my catalog reprint.

I like stepped barrel, actually prefer them. No way I am going to spend $1500.00 for a sporterized mauser, Swedish or otherwise. But hey, it's not my money and every man has a right to spend his money the way he wants. james
