Did you possible mean "without sights"? If that's the case, I don't recall any Winchester 94's being shipped without them.

Same response as Sharp-Shooter here--I can't recall seeing a factory 94 Win without irons of some kind.

Could you be referring to receiver sights or tang sights, perhaps?

they have open iron peep sights, not like the regular blade type

If "sights" is plural--as in, both front and rear--it would be some sort of target arrangement installed "after-market". Such systems can really extract the accuracy from whatever rifle they are installed on.

A rear sight example would be the Lyman #66LA on the Win 94. A front sight example would be the Lyman #17A-series, with the 8 discs that present a wide range of targeting sight picture choices.

Lyman, Williams and others made peep type reciever sights for Winchesters. A close inspection will tell you what you need to know. Also, the peep sight is IMHO the most accurate sight you will find.

i have shoot it quit a few times and i love teh gun, now the fun part will be trying to fiugre all the stuff for reloading it, the bullets are kinda expensive

Now we're cutting to the chase--cheep reloads. Using cast boolits with gas checks, I can load rounds for the 30-30 WCF for around 12-13 cents each. Maybe a bit less.

Deputy Al, do tell!

Willing to share your load data?

Sure--

Lyman #311291 casting--$.0102 with alloy costs at .42/lb

Hornady gas check $.018 paying 18.00/1000

Win LR primer $.021 " 21.00/1000

12.0 x 2400 powder $.029 " 17.00/lb

OK, I exaggerated......components cost is a little under 7.9 cents per round. Of course, this doesn't add brass depreciation, tool amortization, or the other mathematical stilt-work that economists delight in--but you get an idea of the cheep ammo costs that casting can create.

Knocking a rat "a-- over tincups" with a 243 round costing just over 7 cents per trigger squeeze--PRICELESS.

after all the components have been rounded up , the biggest expence is the powder . if your getting 155 loads to a pound of powder (45 grs to the load) that will cost you $0.08.6 a shot @18.00 apound for powder
backwards cost figgering is what you do
when im justifing getting a new tool for the reloading bench i look at what sort of product am i going to get out this in the end . then i look at how much it would cost to buy said product on the market .
i'm going to pick on Midway cause their catalog is handy here .
cost for 100 CPB 460 gr .459 dia WFN bullet is $31.99
cost for NEI mold #346 $110.00 casts a simlar boolit out of free WW.
Mountain Molds can make a mold that does the same thing $40.00 cheaper (if you know what you're doing)
anyhows with the NEI mold i need to cast 345 boolits to make this mold "justify" its self .
"Well what about all the rest of the tooling needed for reloading"
Cost for 1 box of 20 Grizzly 45-70+P with the 460gr CPB WFN is $36.95
cost to get started from scratch .... it can be done for $300 to $800 if you dont have the reloading pressess and dies half that if your going to get started with casting and already have the other stuff .
this is the thinking i use to justify buying all the stuff ive got , the numbers can be tweeked any which way . but Reloading IS Cheaper . Casting is Cheaper Still . thats my storry and im sticking to it.

Nick gave me a call from a gun show some time ago, asking me how much it cost to load up a bunch just for making a lot of noise, really. I said the minimum would be around 7 cents or so. He said a guy was willing to sell him a couple of cases of 8mm military Berdan for 6.5 cents if he would buy them now. I said make sure they were made in the 70's or so. They were, 1972, and gave him the green light. They shoot well enough, but seem to be on the light side which is about perfect for the application. Bet he never finds a deal like that anymore. Too bad they are Berdan, because the cases seem to weight within 5 grains from one another. ... felix

Hi Mick!

'Justify' is a metaphysical concept...like love or chastity..

It exists in the mind of all who desire something that comman sense abhores...

It requires a certain amount of mental agility...to whit...you must be able to stand flat footed, jump 7 feet into the air, and thru your own **s...mentally ,of course...

It has a mathamatical equation....

(dreams) x (dreams) + hope - experience / hard knocks X poor memory = justification factor...

One can see dreams are a powerful effect...
and poor memory can dilute hard knocks...which increase the J factor..

The Justification Factor is used in the US for such things as hot cars, fast women, and big guns....

I hope this helps...

(lol)

I was going to say that "justify" was the thing my word processor does to make the sentences all line up in formation--but I think I'll just stay low and keep dark.

I suppose I justify gun purchases using the following considerations: I want it, I ain't getting any younger and finally, will I go hungry if I buy it? I generally find that most gun purchases can be justified using this formula.

I am getting to the stage of my life where I am at the cross roads and am faced with a choice of two paths.

1) If I buy any more guns I will have to sell some so that they fit in the safe.

2) I buy another gunsafe.

Decisions, decisions.
LOL, Mick.

4fingerMick---You have a severe problem there that might require you to come to the states to see a specialist. Dr Phil might guide you in other areas you could explore. Who knows, you might like rose gardening better than shooting and wouldn't need a safe. Dr Ruth might give you a screw it all attitude and give you a different insight on "safe". Oral Roberts might convince you that your problem is a sickness and he has healed you and you no longer need the guns or the safe and thusly could give your money to him for his work that is more noble than yours. Then again your situation seems very severe you may have to see Dr Kavorkian.

4fingermick: check these guys out. http://hallsafe.com/ I have one, want another, but, I've got to buy 2 more longguns before I can "justify" it [smilie=w:

Try chicanery. I got away with four 1911's through the door being that they all look alike. Did quite well until I left the safe door open. My wife may not know the difference between a Para and a Norinco but she sure did count quick!
