I got a 2A enfield in 308 and the rear sight slide was damaged, couldn't find one by its self so I ordered a 308 barrel from Gun Parts to get the rear sight ladder and slide, I do not need the barrel ,but I do have a #4 that is large in the bore. I was thinking I have a friend who has a 303 chamber reamer, could I ream the 308 barrel to 303 and that way I do not have to worry with the bolt head and extractor? Then I can load the 303 brass with .308 bullets or .309 boolits instead of the hassel that I have to go through to size down a 8mm boolit to have one big enough.

Sounds like a project to me. This way you could shoot 303 brass with 30 cal bullets. And eliminate the oversized chambers on regular 303's. Better yet make it a 30-40 krag. Maybe a 30-30??. Haven't seen that one mentioned before. Frank

Good idea have 500+ 30-30 brass and you can load them long as you are not limited like one of the 30-30 stevens bolt actions due to length of the magazine.
thanks

You may have to set the barrel back to do a rechamber from 308 to 30-30 as I'm pretty sure the point where the 308 shoulder was will be too wide to cut a 30-30 or 30-40 chamber correctly.

Make sure you do a lot of measuring to insure the "new" chamber cleans uppthe old 308 chamber. May require a barrel set back and I'm not sure just how far you can do that without losing the shoulder that mates to the action.

I have been looking at that, might not be do-able but it sounds good, but my measurements show that a 30-40 Krag is going to be more practical.
I need to go to my old retired machinest friend and lay it out as he does these kind of things with guns. Like a 444 on a Mosin Nagant
a 762x51 case is head .468, sholder .453, and oal .214, a 30-40 is head .455, sholder .436, and oal 2.36 a 303 is head .453, sholder .410, and 2.25 OAL.
Just need to go talk to him he is quite knoledagble.

Some improved cases blow out the sholder and might be the trick to doing this deal. Since your a reloader(I'm assuming) , improved designs are easy to use. I load for a few and love the "funny" looking ammo. Improved cases last forever, seldom need trimming and do increase preformance. 22 K Hornet and 250 Savage Improved are two that really shine. The hornet will do 3000+ with 46grn bullets,it does 2000 with 225415. Death on varmits, explodes jack rabbits. The 250-300 Imp. is equal to a 257 Roberts and much shorter. Very easy on power with great loading density.
I got to play with a Remington 788 that had a 30-30 Improved reamer used on it and I have to say,I have never before shot a 30-30 that would shoot 1/2" to 3/4" groups with about any load you want to try. :coffee: :-D

I will look into that, sounds like something I would want to do. Thanks
