This video is just one of a series following two friends who have joined forces to build a wooden sailing vessel...they fall the trees, cut the logs, sticker the wood...on and on. It's a great series of American Ingenuity of a couple of our young generation going old school, lot's of thought & lot's of elbow grease.

This video is pouring a lead keel....10,000 pounds of wheel weights and a couple of smaller keels that get recycled for this ginormous keel.
Wood mould, moisture & a moderate bonfire under an old compressor tank...what could go wrong?

If interested and you want to see more of these two brave individuals here's their work in videos from their You Tube site...

EDIT: We have all talked about recycling a keel into cast boolits, lots of postulation about the simplicity and/or insanity of of a project like that...lots of effort etc., how would you manage? Here's a sample of what these two lads went through to get their first recycle keel...

My brother in law and his partner build a 30' trihull sailboat that my bill sailed to Hawaii solo in. I sailed with him on day trips but that was it.

Now that's a lead pot. I think everyone on this site would love to have that "ingot" in their back yard.
