I have been at "war" with my Ruger 454. I am pretty sure I have the varmint rifle mentality about this revolver, all the bullet touching all the time, I havent found that load yet with my 454. I havent found a load accurate enough to call it a 454, instead of a 45LC.

Today I loaded some 300gr Lee bullets in Starline cases and 25gr of 2400 powder. Accuracy test was very informal being off hand at 35 yards, but I shot 24 rounds into our shooting car. It seems to be accurate at that range and it defiantly has more than enough power, punching that water dropped WW bullet completely through both front doors. Im not sure what the FPS is but it shouldnt have a problem knockin a deer over.

Thats the neighbors car, he came over and asked if we wanted to drag it out back and shoot it some, he was taking it the scrape yard anyways. My 500 S&W didnt even dimple the back side door, 357 did a number on the windows, and the M1 garand really screwed up the engine compartment.

Want penetration? That 41 mag round nose that is going to be a GB. The 41 cal seems the correct diameter for the density of lead we are shooting at 1000-1100. The boolit style holds together nicely, and does not flatten seriously upon impact. I have not tried at 1400-1500 out of the Marlin as of yet. My version is too small in diameter at 410 with antimony at 6 percent or so.
WW does well holding its form at 1000. Deputy Al had independently noticed the same feature of the 41 mag's penetration (in a pistol). In other words, I can see the reasoning that the 500 SW cannot penetrate much. Too much diameter for the length of boolit. ... felix

Seriously?

Maybe he meant it punched right through without leaving a dent around the hole?

If it didn't even dent that car door, it sure as heck wasn't anywhere close to a full power load!

In the 500 I was shooting 440gr heat treated bullet, they guy I bought the barrel from store bought them and sent them along with dies. Anyways they clocked at about 1750, it punched through the first door, maybe it hit the support on one or both doors but it didnt punch through the second door, only had 3 rounds to shoot the neighbor wanted to try it so he got 1 round think he shot it into the engine, his son in law wanted to try it also, think he shot it into the back door (back seat is full of other steel) ....the only mold I have in 50 is for a muzzleloader mini ball which I am working with in my 500, I dont have a proper mold yet for that caliber and I can justify paying for j-bullets.
