I'd like to cut my own sight base for a revolver, locate the screw holes, mill the "recoil lug" that sits in the rear sight blade channel, etc. I'd like to do this so I can customize the base length.

Do blanks exist out there for this purpose, so I can profile the bottom, then D&T as needed? And cut to length of course.

Maybe. Try Brownell's first, they have some stock but I'm not sure if they carry that type.

I don't know about Picatinny rail stock, but I bought Weaver rail blank stock from Brownell's over 20 years ago. It comes in pieces about a foot long, IIRC and was made of black anodized aluminum. I made some pretty off-the-wall applications out of the pieces I bought. I haven't bought any from them lately, but that was one of those standard items that should still be available... I'd check there if I were you.

I have blank scope base material in some of my stuff. I got it from a gunsmiths estate sale. I can see about digging some out.
