Is that the same as 8x50r Lebel? If it is you can buy ready made brass from Graf's. Ppu brand.

i messed up on the size, it is 8.15x58R. WERNDL. CAL. not 8x50R.

What model is your rifle? Are you sure it's not 11.15x58R?

My WERNDL is an 11.15x58R and I use Winchester 348 cases with
the neck expanded to hold a .446 boolit

And I shot it yesterday :)

skeettx, the site you posted is for 8x50 MANLICHER, straight pull. is all you do is expand the neck to .446 on a 348 WIN. case and shoot it? if so how do you do it? and what is the load? i rely want to shoot mine.thanks.

Toot, would love to help you, BUT we still do NOT know what cartridge you want to load for.
Let's review, you have a Werndl ? It is chambered for what cartridge?

If you have a 11.15x58R, and you said you did :)
then yes, and you can expand the 348 neck to .358
and load with FF black powder (semi-compressed),
and a .358 bullet and fire the gun to blow out the case to
mostly finished dimensions, then I clean the brass and re-prime,
and load with 4198 and a .446 cast bullet and all is well.

Now, do you live anywhere near Amarillo, Texas, we could make some up and go shoot it for FREE.

Mike, sorry i live in RI. I it is the 11.15x58R WRENDL. i have the short rifle. i would like to get some fire formed brass, 5 or so to give it a try. if i lived in AMARILLO, TEXAS i would be on your door step ready to go to the range with you!! i am going to copy your instructions you printed and store them in my reloading book for reference, how many grains of 4198 ? any filler or grease cookie on top ? thanks, loads. Start with 23 grains of 4198 and work up, no fillers needed

toot I also shoot a Werndl. love it for first fire I use 10-15grains Unique, fill case with cream of wheat, 1 sheet of toilet paper to hold it in. That will bring the neck up to take a bullet. 2nd fire gets fullpower load.

ascast, WOW!, so simple a cave man can do it !!!, LOL!!! rely, thanks man. that is the simplest, fastest method i have of for fire forming i have ever heard of. let me ask you can i use 8 m/m LEBEL in place of .348 WIN. brass as i have a lot of them? just a thought.

Mike, i wound up using a load of 27 grs. of 4198. worked fine no problems, very accurate at 100 yds. that is the same load i use in my TRAP DOOR SPRINGFIELD RIFLE. shoots the same point of impact. i just worked up the load from 23 grs. you told me to start with.

Yes, and I shoot a bit more than 27 grains, but I wanted you to work it up
because I did not know the condition of your particular rifle :)
Well done

re:8mm Lebel I don't recall if base dia or rim diameter are correct, or close 'nuff. 348 in dead on. LEBEL brass is a valuable source stock for other stiff, like 41 Swiss, Buemont and I thiunk a bunch of others, not to mention 8mm Lebel. I think it would be /is easier to find 348 than 8 mm Lebel. I am kind of out of date on that, but GB or other auction house would resolve debate in a hurry. If you are going to switch primers on that old machine gun stuff, you wont find berdan primers anyway.

Neck sizers and all that will be great soruce of frustration. Watch for the rcbs 44-370 mold as it drops at about 448 which is better. groove will be around 450 or more, but the necks are too thick. even so, they are great rifles and will surprise most people 600yd performance. keep use posted

ascast, roger that. the LEBEL is for the machine gun. 20 rds. on a long metal stripper clip. that goes into the side of the FRENCH MG. i have access to WIN. 348 brass.

I had a bunch of that stuff back when Berdan primers could be found reasonable. I have a modeling lathe cutting the military crimp out was the best way to get primers out. The hydraulic method was not effective for the most part.
