I recently came into possession of a SIG P229 Equinox in .40 S&W. I have a P226 that was manufactured as a .40 S&W and I have since gotten a .357SIG barrel and a 9mm barrel for it and they all work perfectly using the same slide. My question is, can I do the same with the P229? I want to add the 9mm and .357SIG barrel without making other changes except for the 9mm mags. Has anyone else done this or knows if I can? Thanks, John

I know that you can do 40S&W and 357SIG with just a barrel swap on the 229. Not sure on the 9mm.

My P229 is the older non-railed version. It came as a 40 S&W and the previous owner added a Sig OEM 357 Sig barrel. I contacted Sig about adding a 9MM and they recommended purchasing their Sig Exchange Kit which includes a new slide assembly, barrel and 1 magazine...it does have Sig night sights. About $400 direct from Sig. I have read that there are some aftermarket barrels available but they may require fitting and a spring change. Of course, 9MM mags must be used. I don't have the funds currently so the Exchange Kit is on my wish list. Good luck sir...

Bar-sto (https://www.barsto.com/index.cfm) and EFK (https://www.efkfiredragon.com/index.php) have replacement 9mm barrels for .40 s&w/.357 sig slides. OD of barrel is larger than stock 9mm barrels.

Bar-sto is more money but apparently more accurate.

I have heard of folks converting a 40 to a 9mm by just swapping the barrel, but that doesn't seem wise to me. The breech is wider on the 40 (0.424 at base) to guide the case to center and the extractor is set for the 40. The 9mm (0.391 at base) being narrower on the back end may not work properly with the extractor. Now a .357 sig is perfect since it is a necked down 40 anyway. Whether it will work is merely speculation on my part, but there are definite dimension differences to consider.
