454 load data

Looking for starting loads for 265gr LBT gc boolit for the 454 Casull , using either h3227 , or IMR4227. Are these two powders interchangeable ? Thanks for any info.

Hold up the bullet next to a primed case and see how far the shank goes in when loaded. Fill the case to this level with 4227 and weigh the charge. That's your load.

It will go about 1100-1300 FPS depending on barrel length and run about 26,000 PSI. You'll need a faster, denser powder like 296 if you want Casull performance. H4227 and IMR4227 are interchangeable at this performance level.

I have used IMR 4227 in my 454 but was never happy with it I had better luck with H110 anyway this may help you
