Some time ago I bought two mold halves from one of our castboolits brothers. Generally dimensioned for a .375, it was, as advertised, a basket case. -- Just what I was looking for! :) After making the sprue plate, drilling and setting alignment pins, and a host of other little details, I got a mold that casts a beauty. Have had some success using it in a .375 H&H, but now want to use it in a .38-55. It has no marking at all on the body of the mold. After some research attempts, I can't find out anything about this mold. It is as follows:
Cast with about a BHN #8 it weighs 315 grains -------
Cast diameter is about 0.381 or so with a flare at the base of 0.384 (sprue cut off lead mostly) --------
It's a plain based / flat nosed boolit --------
Meplat is aprox. 0.230 inches ----------
Overall it's 1.098 inches long --------
It has 5, square-ish, lube grooves ---------

Can't find it in any of the books I've looked in. Rather looks like a Lyman 375248 or a scaled up 311407. It's neither, but kind of looks like them.

Also, with such a heavy weight, do you think it is suitable for the .38-55?

Thoughts and comments appreciated. ------------------------------Thanks, 725

I would have no clue on what the mold would be but congratulations on salvaging it!

photos might help with identifying the maker, if it was a mass produced mold.

I'm too stupid to post photos. Have tried but failed. Thanks, anyway.

Lyman 48 contains load data for cast boolits up to 355 grains, you're good to go with that mold.
