I recently acquired a 1lb can of Hercules 2400 from a reliable source.
He assured me that this is simply unopened old stock, and having been properly stored, was viable powder.
I find data for Hercules 2400, and for Alliant 2400, but not both powders listed in the same sources, or for the same applications.
Can I use the Hercules 2400 with the Alliant data?

Both are the same. The Hercules is prior to being sold to Alliant. At least this has always been my understanding. I interchange them regular basis as I've picked up some old stock a few times.

Do you mind my asking what caliber you were loading?

I agree with Jeepy, I use all old/new 2400 in my 22 hornets and find little if any difference. If the powder was stored properly and unopened (smells good, looks good) I use it. If opened, use it as nutrition for your lawn, no questions.

I use 2400 in 357 mag and 44 mag.

Use the powder and not look back.I still have some left from years ago and other of Hercules and still good. When you go to Alliant after just make some test loads and make sure that it is ok for you. Because lot to lot can have a little change. But most of the time is will not really show. That is what I found.

I have 2 square tin cans of 2400 that I've been using it with no problems. No idea how old it is.

2400 straddles the line between slow handgun and fast rifle powder. I use it in .357 mag, .44 mag, .30/30 and .35 REM. One of my favorite powders. Check the Silhouette section of older Alliant manuals for some rifle cartridge loads.

It is fantastic powder. There is no difference between Alliant and Hercules data. It was previously made by DuPont - the formula has not changed in a long time.

I do not only use it for cast loads, but also in the 410 loads .
